Coaching Questions

What would I do with a coach?

Working with a coach provides you with an opportunity to talk about your professional and personal dreams — to develop a vision of what you want in your life. It also provides you with an opportunity to develop steps to achieve your vision and to monitor your progress along the way.

How does coaching work?

In coaching, I help you not only to visualize your dreams or goals but to experience them. Visualizing helps you to see, hear, and feel your dreams. Coaching also works by helping you figure out what you need to do in order to realize this vision — i.e. what small steps you have to take to achieve your goals. Coaching helps you feel excited and motivated to act upon these steps!

What difference is coaching going to make in my life?

Coaching is really about making a commitment to yourself. Having success requires time and effort. It also requires a commitment to do everything you can to make your dreams happen. Coaching can make a real difference in your life because it helps you to make that commitment, to take the time and put in the effort to define your dream, figure out the steps you need to get there, to re-evaluate, and finally to make your dream happen.

How is coaching different than someone making a plan and just doing it?

A really important part of Coaching is developing a rich vision of what you want, and helping you build momentum and confidence. It also gives you the opportunity to evaluate: are you reaching your goals? How do you maintain these goals? Are revisions required? Coaching helps you to identify priorities in a meaningful way.

How do coaching and counselling compare?

There are lots of similarities between coaching and counselling. Counselling and coaching are both a commitment to yourself, a way to be proactive — to feel like you can handle whatever comes your way, and to feel like you have the energy and motivation to make a difference in your life. Both coaching and counselling give you a snapshot of what success may look like. Counselling and coaching help you develop a rich experience of success by enabling you to see, feel, and hear what it may look like. In coaching you often feel a real sense of excitement and motivation to get going right away to reach your goals. In counselling there is often an affirmation of your competence and a growing confidence that you can deal with whatever may come your way. Counselling is often about growing your feelings of confidence and competence in living the life you want.

Counselling would be recommended over coaching if you are a risk to yourself, someone else, or have a serious, ongoing mental health concern—i.e. severe depression.

I would be happy to discuss with you whether you think counselling or coaching would be more beneficial.

Why would someone hire a coach?

You might hire a coach for a whole variety of personal and professional goals. For example, you may have fitness goals you’d like to reach, want to become more motivated in life, want to have more work/life balance, want to figure out what’s going to make you the happiest, want to figure out what to do for work, want to change careers, have professional development goals, or want to develop a more effective work environment.

Is coaching worth the cost?

Coaching is about making a commitment to you. It’s a block of time set aside on a regular basis to focus on your dreams, your goals, and what you need to do to get there. It provides you with a rich and vivid experience of your dreams and an opportunity to realize them. Is success worth the cost?
